The spatial arrangement of chromophores and interchromophoric interactions play crucial roles in determining the optical properties of fluorescent materials.
Although common fluorescent dyes often suffer from fluorescence quenching in dense media or in the solid state, several effective strategies are proposed to avoid quenching or even enhance emission.
Here I will introduce our example of structural modification and covalently linking of fluorophore. The fluorescent behaviors in solution and in the solid state are discussed in terms of the emission and the nonradiative decay rate constants.
